The Western Desert of Egypt, near the Libyan border at sunset. Once crossed by salt caravans, this desert connected oases, nomadic peoples, and great African empires. The sand retains the memory of ancient routes and the breath of centuries. The crest of a dune is the highest line of sand, where two slopes meet. There, one can feel the transition between stability and drift, between permanence and transformation.
This photograph of the desert was captured near the Siwa Oasis, Egypt, Africa.
