The sea is often represented metaphorically as a reflection of the human soul. At times a place of tumult, calm or storm. Its great depths, or abysses, occupy two-thirds of our planet. Yet they are home to an abundance of unknown ecosystems. The abyss 1 artwork represent abstractions of the seabed, where we travel from the surface to the deepest black. These images poetically illustrate a kind of descent or great inner voyage. With courage, we explore our zones of discomfort and fear, and we can also, astonishingly, discover a multitude of rare pearls and thus uncover the unimaginable.
This artwork was created in 2024 from a photo-projection made from Photographs of a savanna tree in Rhazabé and of the mangrove near Dangane in the Saloum Delta, Senegal, Africa.
